Karaoke around the World
My Pub is My Castle

Where else would you expect to find karaoke in Britain than in the local pubs? Well, there are karaoke clubs, although more scarce now. These karaoke clubs, dedicated solely to karaoke, were all over Britain ten years ago, says Karen Arthur, but they stopped being as popular so most of them have closed down. But karaoke in pubs still thrives.
Karen should know because she met her husband, Billy, in a karaoke club ten years ago. We're not sure what impressed her the most--the man himself or his Elvis impersonation, which is quite impressive.
Karen tells us she has a couple of friends who go to a "SingAlong Club" but to her they definitely look more like something between a masquerade party and a dance club. Yet many claim Singalong clubs are great fun.
Regardless, it is always a lot of fun to go down to the local pub with "the lads" to have a pint or three, and cheer your favorite soccer team to a win over their rivals. Then sit back watch the correct British gentlemen loosen up, throw their "properness" overboard and grab the microphone. And if you're real lucky you just might get to hear Billy do his memorable version of "Blue Suede Shoes".
