Showcase Spotlight on Steve Shelton

By Nicole

Steve Shelton was obviously nervous as he was waiting for his showcase to begin. As it happens many times, some of the guests arrive late and Steve wanted to wait because he knew for sure more friends would show up. Sure enough, by 8 15 PM more of his friends came waltzing in; they grabbed some chairs and lined them up right in front of him, maybe 12 chairs. I thought, how different.  They sat there with beaming faces, as if they were waiting for a major ARTIST to perform at a big CONCERT. As soon as I announced “Showtime!” Steve gave them a big smile and started to sing.... this was his moment!

Steve started out with a song from Tobe Keith,” A Little Less Talk And A Lot More Action” a very invigorating song. He followed this with Pretty Women. Talk about energy filling the air!  Everyone’s hands clapping and feet stomping to the rhythm of the music! To the delight of the audience, he then sang a song from one of his favorite artist, Garth Brooks, " Standing Outside The Fire."

His wife Jennifer made up his list and Steve had no idea what the next song would be! It was fun to see his reaction when the next song would come up, He'd say, "Man you're killing me honey”, and everybody would laugh. Of course, one of the songs which Jennifer picked was "This magic Moment." Steve walked to where she was sitting with their 2-month-old baby and he kissed them both while kneeling on one knee. How sweet!

His next song, “Don't Rock the Jukebox”, really picked up the pace and he sings it so well. That was followed by "He Stopped Loving Her Today."  He sang it with so much feeling.

He, of course had an encore, but he wasn't ready for it. He was actually so surprised that his sister, Jeannette, was in the audience and she suggested that he sing “In The Ghetto." Everyone put their hands up in the air and shouted, “Yeah! Yeah!”  He finally agreed to an encore saying,  "Alright, at least I know that one!"

This was his first showcase; the response from the audience was astounding. Be sure to attend his next one.  You'll be amazed by his talent.
