Coleman's Response to the Response

Dear Joanne,

The first point of the article, which strays into whimsical unreality, was that the karaoke industry suffers a bad reputation by nature. Will karaoke ever take its rightful place within the music industry? Maybe even a Grammy for Best Karaoke Performance of the Year! (hey why not? ...just not any time soon). One reason is that karaoke is so demanding as an interactive music entertainment venue. One that services all types of singers. Not just the great ones, but the offensive and abusive too.

This service is provided by KJs who exhibit varying styles and levels of professionalism and adds to industry stress factors. Singers that try us KJ’s, to the point of ill feelings and fanciful notions is a natural occurrence, however KJ’s prone to excess (drunkenness, altercations and violent outbursts at karaoke venues) should be the ones to rethink their career choice, and this occurs at karaoke venues everywhere. These examples of less than professional behavior have not gone unnoticed by the karaoke market, and do irreparable harm to the industry that is our livelihood.

This may be part of the reason that typical DJ’s can still command higher prices than KJ’s who actually do more work per song, at least generally speaking. These darker issues are the price that only karaoke jocks will pay. Yours truly, works very hard at raising the bar of professionalism, one singer (or KJ) at a time. It is a gift to be able to laugh at your self, and my only intention was to give out a few smiles. Your premise on karaoke is valid... your passionate response is appreciated.

Next song please,

Coleman
